Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro

If you ever in your life decided to mix Death Note and Gintama, Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro will be the weird offspring of these two anime.
Set in Japan (most likely a city in the Kanto region), Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro talks about a group of detectives who solve many different cases. These cases are usually portrayed by weekly villains and they last only one episode, except for a few of them who have a full 3 to 4 episode arc. This anime is great in comparison to the 2007 fall season of anime. Even though the season saw many great anime c...More

Fate/Stay Night

Generally, there is a plot and they stuck to it but Fate/Stay Night is neither original nor fascinating. The flow of the story ranges from average to painstakingly slow, with a little too much emphasis on the Holy Grail. Saber's story is not shown until half of the anime
leaving other people confused. The other characters' stories are presented one by one but some stories are superficial and you never get to know the depth of a character which will manage to make them look silly towards the end. The typical mid-series crisis is also

Grave of the Fireflies

"September 21, 1945... that was the night I died." It is very rare for the first line in a film to hit you as hard as Grave of the Fireflies' does, but this one line set's the tone for the rest of the film. This is no happy go lucky kids film, this is what real life was like, and it isn't pretty.

The main focus throughout the film is the relationship between Seita and his sister Setsuko, and it truly hit home just how well it's brought across to us. No matter what problems may arise, no matter what difficulties they faced, Seita always puts ...More

Laputa: Castle in the Sky

I first remember watchng Laputa when I was very young. It appeared on TV and I was instantly transfixed to it. Now, after all these years, I can finally watch it whenever I want to, and if you haven't yet seen it either, I suggest you do as well. This is one film you'll want to watch again and again.

The plot is extremely well thought out, without being too overly complicated. You will be instantly drawn into the story, and there is always some new element added throughout that'll keep you interested.

Laputa features some of the best char...More

Heat Guy J

I must admit I was a bit dubious about Heat Guy J to begin with. It boasted almost every genre of anime you can think of (action, mecha, sci-fi etc) that I thought it was bound to do one of two things. It was either going to do a half-baked job of everything, or it's going to fit together perfectly. Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised.

The plot basically revolves around Daisuke and J helping to clear up crime in the city, but there are a lot of underlying sub-plots running throughout the series too. You'll meet a lot of mysterious charac...More

Death Note

I will say this right out now, Death Note is not for someone who is looking for action and explosions aplenty. This is one anime that will have you thinking with your head a lot.

The great thing about Death Note is that the plot is constantly evolving. You really don't know which way it's going to turn next, and each episode ends on a cliffhanger of sorts, making you want to watch the next one, to see how things develop.

You will have to stick with it though, as the plot does start off slow, and really doesn't pick up much pace until the...More

Howl's Moving Castle

Howl's Moving Castle may deceive a lot of people at first and that's because of its relatively childish title. At first I thought, "so yeah, it's a castle that moves." But I was wrong, there's a lot more to it than I thought.

First off is the plot. It's really difficult to review the plot without giving out any spoiler so I'll just say that the plot is not really conventional but it isn't complicated either. It's relatively easy to understand. What I like most about its plot is that there is no unnecessary event; everything is connected a...More

Takayanagi Mitsuomi, Natsume Maya, Natsume Shin, and Souichiro Nagi are key players to this series. Yet only a few know what really went on, leavening everyone else on the side line waiting for the next move. It's a love story gone really wrong with Natsume Shin.

Shin was a dark person from the point he touched the ceremonial sword known as Reiki. Shin has been very isolated by poeple,Yet only one person has ever showed Shin kindness and that was his dear sister Maya. This caused Shin to keep Maya very close to him.

Shin later creates a ...More

Saber Marionette J to X

Set after the events of the Saber Marionette J series, Saber Marionette J to X does a good job of preserving the flow of events from the original series. The story starts a bit more slowly this time, focusing on the everyday events of Otaru and the girls, exposing some of the conflicts that have developed in their tightly-knit ?family?. In fact, most of this series deals with elements regarding relationships, emotional struggles, and self-discovery in some way or another. The new threat does not begin to emerge until the show is well under way....More

During the war 10 years ago, Kenshin Himura was known as Battousi the Manslayer, the most-feared swordsman of the revolution, personally responsible for taking countless lives as an assassin for the Emperor. After the Imperialists were defeated in the war against Tokugawa, Kenshin has been attempting to assimilate himself back into society. His enemies aren?t so willing to forget his violent deeds, however; and he is confronted at every turn by shadows from his past.

Battle Arena Toshinden

As you might expect of a movie based on a video game, Toshinden's storyline is predictably weak and yet still manages to confuse the viewer.
The story predominantly features Eiji, who is searching for his brother, but many other fighters are also shown, albeit briefly. Fanboys will enjoy seeing their favorite characters in action, but many don't really get an adequate showcase for their abilities.

Their is some decent action to be seen at least, with some good old-fashioned anime flair. Powerful attacks that send shockwaves and debris hurt...More

Legend of Himiko

Honestly, this series is one of the blandest representatives of anime I?ve ever encountered. The story mimics several more successful anime shows while still managing to be boring and hard to follow. Himiko is sent to the future by a mystical flame of light called the Bokka. Then she is summoned back years later to help save her country from the forces of evil.

While this may sound exciting (especially if you?re a 12 year-old girl), Himiko never really does anything other than whine, moan, and occasionally lose consciousness. Kutani actuall...More

Birdy The Mighty

Birdy the Mighty comes in two volumes, Double Trouble and Final Force, containing two episodes each. This four-part series is expertly done on several levels, so it's surprising that it seems to be almost unheard-of. As one would expect, the story provides for some very sticky situations and it's humorous to watch both Birdy and Tsutomu attempt to carry on their lives as normally as possible, while avoiding embarrassing predicaments.

Of course, determining who will have control of the body when is a major problem. Birdy's important role as a...More

The story of Moldiver is propelled by the evil Dr. Machinegal?s nefarious plans to steal various items of value using his robotic minions. However, this essentially serves as a platform for the hilarious antics of Mirai and company. Mirai is a novice superhero, and her learning process is both comical and destructive. Because of the tremendous power of the suit, trial and error might mean the destruction of a bridge or an entire building.
Paranoia Agent

Satoshi Kon, director of such classics as Perfect Blue and Millennium Actress, is famous for pushing the boundaries of anime. His latest effort (and first series), Paranoia Agent, is no different. But, like his other works, you?ll either love it or hate it. This short 13 episode series is full of more twists and turns than you can shake a stick at, and the animation style is anything but traditional.
